What is spoolsv.exe and Why is it Running?

You’re probably reading this because you found spoolsv.exe running on your computer, and you’d like to know what it is. Good news, it’s not a virus; not usually anyway. It’s actually a process created by Microsoft that runs in nearly every version of Windows out there, even Windows 8. Spoolsv.exe handles print jobs, not much else. For more information, read on.
Spoolsv.exe in Task Manager
According to it’s description in Process Explorer “This service spools print jobs and handles interaction with the printer. If you turn off this service, you won’t be able to print or see your printers.” Spoolsv.exe is the Windows Print Spooler, its description in Task Manager will vary depending on what version of Windows you are using.
Under normal conditions, a print spooler acts as a queue for sending documents to the printer. Most printers can’t handle print queue’s of their own, so they rely on the software sending them print jobs to manage them. Without the Windows Print Spooler service you wouldn’t be able to print more than one document at a time, and any documents not immediately sent to the printer wouldn’t print. It’s a useful service, unless you don’t have a printer.
Some users, typically those without printers, have reported that Spoolsv.exe can use a staggering portion of CPU or Memory. And it does happen, but only under certain circumstances. If you have multiple documents queued to print, but no way to print them, the printer spooler will tax the system more than it should so that in an effort to retain all of the data queued to be printed. High CPU use can also occur if a virus with a copy-cat name has infected the computer masquerading itself as Spoolsv.exe
Spoolsv.exe doesn’t have a very high system footprint at only 1,100K and you should keep it running. But if you don’t have a physical or virtual printer setup on your computer, you don’t need it. Disabling the process is pretty easy, and here are the steps to do it.
In the Windows Start Menu perform a search for “services”. In Windows Vista and 7 this can be done from the Start Menu Orb. In Windows 8 just start typing the word and the search window will appear. You’ll also have to select the Settings category in the Windows 8 results list.
windows 8 services snap inwindows 7 and Vista services
From the services menu scroll down to Print Spooler and then right-click or double-click it to open its Properties.
Print Spooler service
From the Print Spooler Properties window change the Startup type to disabled. You can also Stop the service now with the Stop button if you want to get rid of it now rather than waiting for your next reboot.

Conclusion
Spoolsv.exe is a useful Windows process created by Microsoft. It’s essential for printing, and usually shouldn’t cause any problems. If you don’t do any printing you can get rid of it, or just end the process from the Task Manager. Spoolsv doesn’t use up very many resources under normal conditions, and most users shouldn’t need to bother with it.

Check Successful or Failed Windows Login Attempts

Have you ever checked your Windows system logs to see if anyone has tried to access your computer? Even if you have multiple users, keeping track of who’s accessing your computer is important. You might want to make sure your ex-girlfriend or someone else isn’t trying to log in to your computer. Here’s to check Audit Logs in Windows to see who’s tried to get in.

Open Event Viewer in Windows

In Windows 7, click the Start Menu and type: event viewer in the search field to open it.
Event VIewer 1
For Windows 8, you can open Event Viewer from the Power User Menu from the Desktop.
Expand Windows Logs and click on Security.
Event VIewer 2
Now, look for event ID 4624, these are successful login events for your computer.
Event VIewer 8
Double clicking on the event will open a popup with detailed information about that activity. It will show you complete details about that specific login including the account name, date and time of login.
Event VIewer 3

Enable Logon Auditing

If you don’t see these events in your Event Viewer, you might have to enable Logon Auditing. It may be enable for your computer to save successful logs but if its not, here’s how you can do it.
Note: Group Policy Editor is not available in Home versions on Windows 7 or the standard version of Windows 8.
In Windows 7 open the Start Menu and type: gpedit.msc
Event VIewer 4
Or in Windows 8, use the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + R and type: gpedit.msc in the Run line and hit Enter.
In Group Policy Editor, navigate to Windows Settings >> Security Settings >> Local Policy >> Audit Policy.
Event VIewer 7
Then double click on Audit Logon Events.
Event VIewer 5
From there, check the boxes to audit successful or failed audit attempts and click OK.
Event VIewer 6
There you go! Now you’ll be able to see the complete logon activities (failed or successful) for your Windows computer.

How to Add an Extra USB Port to Your Wired Computer Mouse

Ever try plugging in two flash drives into your MacBook Pro before? The USB ports on MacBooks are not only directly side by side, they're insanely close to each other, so it can be extremely difficult to plug in a large USB device with another smaller USB device.
Sometimes it can fit, but it's a strain on the USB port and the device itself. If one of the items in question is a USB mouse, then your worries are over...

How to Add a USB Port to a Computer Mouse

Instructables user Liquidhandwash dealt with his USB problem by attaching an extra port to his mouse!
He basically just stripped down the mouse and USB flash drive and combined them, though it made the edge of the mouse a little rough lookiing.
He then added Sugru around the port for aesthetic purposes.
Of course, it was a bit more complicated than just pushing everything in place, so make sure to check out Liquidhandwash's full tutorial if you plan on doing it yourself.

How to Easily Split, Merge, Rotate, and Combine PDF Files with No Software or Registration

PDF files are awesome because they're easy to share and they prevent the format on your document from being messed up, no matter what system or program it's opened in. Their biggest downside, though, is how difficult they are to edit or change once they're made.
Sejda is a free online tool (currently in beta mode) that lets you manipulate PDF files right from your browser without registering or downloading any software.

You can encrypt or split a PDF, merge two together, or rotate pages within a file. Under the Configuration tab, you can even choose which version you want the new PDF file to be.

Since you don't have to sign up for an account and there's no clear statement on whether or not the site keeps a copy of the files, I wouldn't suggest using this for anything super sensitive. Otherwise, if you're not using it for anything you want to keep private, it has some great features and it's really convenient.
Check out Sejda's website to try it out and find out what new features they're working on.
If Sejda is not your style, there is also a new site called PDFzen, which is free and mobile-friendly.

How to Automatically Delete Spam Messages in Gmail

Most of the spam messages are commercial advertisements, phishing websites and get rich quickly messages that asks users to provide personal details and other confidential information.Spam filters in Gmail prevent its users from these spam messages and restrict them to enter in user’s Gmail inbox.Generally, it acts like a firewall between spam messages and Gmail Inbox.Gmail filters detect the sender’s email address and accordingly send the received messages in Inbox or Spam folder.
If you are receiving too many spam messages and tired of deleting them then you can create your own Gmail filter which will automatically delete all your messages residing in the spam folders automatically. As all the messages in the spam folder are not actually spam, some genuine messages are also diverted in spam folder due to limitation of spam filter’s algorithm then usage of this trick is not optimal solution. But you can check all the deleted messages in Trash folder.
Open your Gmail Settings by clicking on the Gear button.Select Filters tab from it.

Use Original Domain Address for Phishing Web page

phishing image
Hi friends ,  you may have known about how to create phishing web Page.  If you don't know about Phishing Web Page, you need to read this tutorials first:
Once you know the basics of Phishing web Page ,come to this post.
Requirements:
  •    Wamp server
  •    Install WinRar
Ok friends, there's one drawback in our traditional Phishing web page method. You know what is it? You are right, the url of our phishing web page. It may look like the real one,but it is not.

For eg: we may create the Phishing web page with www.gmails.com but it's not at all same as www.gmail.com

Probably, the experienced internet users will notice the URL of web Page. So they won't fall in our Fishnet.

What we are going to do now?
Why should not we make the phishing web page's URL looks exactly same as the real Domain Name? You may ask "is it possible?". My answer is yes, you can. It sounds good na? go ahead.

How we are going to implement?

We are going to send an email with an executable to victim.
If the victim double click the executable file, then you are done.
Now whenever the victim enter the real domain name (like www.facebook.com) ,he will be in our phishing web page.
Don't worry the domain name is original URL(like www.facebook.com)

Got surprised....!!!! You may ask how this is done,go ahead.

How it is done?
Executable file will change the Host file of Victim system.
What is host file?
The host file contains Domain Name and IP address associated with them.  Your host file will be in this path:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\

Whenever we enter the Domain name or URL (for eg: www.webaddress.com), a query will be send to the DNS (Domain Name server).  This DNS connect to the IP address which is associated with the Domain Name.   But before this to be done, the host file in our system will check for the IP address associated with the Domain Name.  Suppose we make an entry with Domain Name and IP address of our phishing web page(for  eg: www.webaddress.com wiht our ip 123.23.X.X),then there's no query will be send to the DNS.
It will automatically connect to the IP address associated with the Domain Name.  This will fruitful for us to mask the PHISHING web page's URL with Original Domain Name.

Now Let's divide into the Implementation:
  • If you are hosting some other hosting site, probably you won't get the unique IP address for your Phishing Web Page. You can have the IP Address of the hosting only. So if you try to use that IP address, the victim will not bring to your Phishing web page , they will bring to the hosting address.

So what you can do overcome this problem? You need to set up your own Webserver in home. Using Webserver softwares you can set up your own Hosting service.

Your computer should be turned on always. Because if you turned off the computer, then probably host will not be in online. Again it will be available when you turned on. So your computer turned on when victim visits your site.

How To set up Your own server?
Download the  Webserver softwares like WAMP,XAMP(Both are open source software, I meant they are free ).  My suggestion is WAMP.  Because it is my favorite one.  It is easy to use.

Downlad the wamp server from http://www.wampserver.com/

Install the WAMP server.  After installation completed, Go to this folder path:
C:\Wamp\WWW
And paste your phishing web page here.

Start the Wamp Server.
(Start->windows->All Programs->Wamp Server->start wamp server)

you can see the half circle icon(wamp server icon) in system tray(i mean near to the time). Click the icon and select the start all services.

Now type your ip address in address bar of the web browser and hit enter. If you don't know your ip address ,visit www.whatismyip.com.

Now you can see your Phishing web page in your Browser.

Modifying the Host file :
Copy the Host file from this path "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" to desktop.  Right click on the host file and open with Notepad.

You can see the localhost entry there.
Below that type as :
your_ip     domain_name
For eg:
123.xx.xx.xx www.gmail.com
.
 Save the File.

Compress the Host File:

Compress hosts file such that when victim opens it, it automatically gets copied to default
location C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc and victim's hosts file get replaced by our modified hosts file.

Right click on the Hosts file and select the Add to archieve option.  Now follow the steps which is shown in picture:

Now send the zipped file to victim.  If he extract the zip file, then the hosts file will be replaced.
You are done.  Now whenever he try to visit the genuine or original website, the phishing webpage only will be shown.

Some Disadvantages of this Hack:
  •    If your IP address is dynamically changed ,then it is hard to implement it
  •   If your victim is advanced user,he may notice the certificates of site which is shown by browser.
Don't worry it is not at all big problem.   Just try it ane enjoy it.
